According to a new report from the White House Council of Economic Advisors, the government shutdown being led by Haley Stevens, Elissa Slotkin, and Gary Peters, and backed Mallory McMorrow and Abdul El-Sayed, will have devastating consequences for Michigan families, businesses, and workers.
Haley Stevens and Senate Democrats voted to shut down the federal government and demand a radical wishlist that included $1.5 trillion in new spending, funding free healthcare for illegal immigrants, and cutting $50 billion in funding for rural hospitals provided by the Working Family Tax Cuts. Stevens is seen as Chuck Schumer’s preferred candidate in the Michigan U.S. Senate race. Schumer has been coordinating his shutdown with “outside liberal groups” as an opportunity to “[play] to his base.”
Thanks to Stevens, Slotkin, and Peters choosing to shut down the government, Michigan will see:
- 1,300 jobs lost
- 56,000 federal workers furloughed or forced to work without pay
- 10,600 Social Security checks delayed
- 189,000 Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program benefits halted
- $92 million worth of small business loans frozen
- $237 million cut to federal contract spending
- $563 million in consumer spending will fall each month
“Haley Stevens, Elissa Slotkin, and Gary Peters are determined to push their devastating government shutdown onto Michigan families to demand free healthcare for illegal aliens,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Samantha Cantrell. “Tens of thousands of Michiganders will feel the brunt of this shutdown unless Slotkin and Peters stand up to their Party boss Chuck Schumer tomorrow when the Senate votes again.”
