According to a new report from the White House Council of Economic Advisors, the government shutdown being led by Chris Pappas, Jeanne Shaheen, and Maggie Hassan will have devastating consequences for New Hampshire families, businesses, and workers.
Pappas and Senate Democrats voted to shut down the federal government and demand a radical wishlist that included $1.5 trillion in new spending, funding free healthcare for illegal immigrants, and cutting $50 billion in funding for rural hospitals provided by the Working Family Tax Cuts. Pappas is seen as Chuck Schumer’s preferred candidate in the New Hampshire U.S. Senate race. Schumer has been coordinating his shutdown with “outside liberal groups” as an opportunity to “[play] to his base.”
Thanks to Pappas, Shaheen, and Hassan choosing to shut down the government, New Hampshire will see:
- 200 jobs lost
- 9,000 federal workers furloughed or forced to work without pay
- 1,300 Social Security checks delayed
- 12,000 Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program benefits halted
- $14 million worth of small business loans frozen
- $54 million cut to federal contract spending
- $103 million in consumer spending will fall each month
“Chris Pappas, Jeanne Shaheen, and Maggie Hassan are determined to push their devastating government shutdown onto Granite State families to demand free healthcare for illegal aliens,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Samantha Cantrell. “Tens of thousands of Granite Staters will feel the brunt of this shutdown unless Shaheen and Hassan stand up to their Party boss Chuck Schumer tomorrow when the Senate votes again.”
