Heidi Heitkamp’s planned meeting today with Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh highlights the steep odds she faces heading into November’s election.
Heitkamp, who won by fewer than 3,000 votes in 2012, is in a no-win situation regarding Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
60% of North Dakota voters want to see Kavanaugh confirmed, but Heitkamp’s backers on the far-left are begging her not to betray them, and to vote no.
It’s clear no matter what decision Heitkamp makes on Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation she’s going to anger one bloc of voters, and with her electoral path already a nearly impossible tightrope to walk, Heidi is in a disastrous position.
“When it comes to Judge Kavanaugh, Heidi Heitkamp is stuck between a rock and a hard place,” said NRSC Spokesman Michael McAdams. “Heitkamp must choose between backing the majority of North Dakotans who want to see Judge Kavanaugh confirmed and turning her back on the liberal Democrats she needs to win reelection, or falling in line with Chuck Schumer and her radical base, and opposing 60% of North Dakota voters. Either way, voters won’t be happy.”
