Today’s floor vote on the confirmation of CIA Director Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State will put Senate Democrats’ obstruction on full display. The Wall Street Journal summed up the Democrats’ strategy nicely by saying:
“Mark it down as one more example that hatred for Mr. Trump has caused many of his opponents to abandon rational judgment.”
With their opposition to an eminently qualified nominee, Democrats are hell-bent on their continued obstructionism even though it is causing a nightmare for 2018 Democrats up for reelection in states President Trump carried. Even media outlets across the country are urging Democrats to support Pompeo’s confirmation, pointing out that Democrats have no real basis to oppose his nomination. Yet, here we are and red state Dems are once again between a rock and a hard place, thanks to their left-wing colleagues’ premature auditions for 2020.
So, what are red state Dems to do? Placate the base to pass the liberal Kamala Harris litmus test? Or vote to confirm Pompeo? Either way red state Dems are left in a no-win situation.
