MELISSA: "We have people come into our recovery centers – over 15,000 visits in a year. With all my heart, I believe that the Governor has mishandled this crisis. It’s sad.
"The budget that she vetoed – it was all about the politics.
"The cost of the entrenchment and bureaucracy is 429 people dying a year. That’s the cost."
SCRIPT – "DENNIS":
DENNIS: "I started using when I was 12. Homeless for 13 years. Been incarcerated 31 times.
"I’m from Providence, Rhode Island. I came here and the problem was so much greater and there was so much less access to treatment.
"It was very frustrating trying to get somebody a bed somewhere when they really wanted help. I’ve seen a lot of people die while they were waiting for those beds.
"Governor Hassan could have done more. We’re losing our friends. We’re losing our neighbors. And our sons and daughters. It’s a very high cost."
