Washington, D.C.— Following the news that Stacey Abrams declined the “relentless” urging of Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats to run for the U.S. Senate in Georgia, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) Communications Director Jesse Hunt issued the following statement:

“Stacey Abrams handed Chuck Schumer his most embarrassing recruiting fail of the cycle, leaving Georgia Democrats stuck with an assortment of second-tier candidates. Her decision is the latest in a string of high-profile Democrats who have rejected Schumer’s pitch out of fear of facing formidable Republican Senators next fall.”

Schumer spent months wooing Abrams to run for the U.S. Senate, having met with her in person at least three times. Abrams characterized Schumer’s efforts as “relentless.” Schumer went as far as to invite Abrams to give the Democratic response to the State of the Union in an attempt to elevate her profile for a U.S. Senate run.
