In the ad, Cortez Masto falsely claims that she was responsible for negotiating a mortgage settlement paid by big banks to Nevada homeowners.

Cortez Masto’s own words – on multiple occasions – tell a very different story. At the time the negotiations were taking place, Cortez Masto appeared in several interviews and said blankly that she had no involvement in reaching the settlement.

According to her own admissions, Cortez Masto’s recent claims about her role in the mortgage settlement are blatantly false. CLICK HERE TO WATCH:

NRSC News Intro

AD VOICEOVER: Back in 2008, over 77,000 Nevada homes faced foreclosure, making us the foreclosure capital of America

ANCHOR: Catherine Cortez Masto recently released an ad claiming she stood up for Nevada homeowners by brokering a mortgage settlement with big banks.

AD VOICEOVER: “I was determined to stand up for Nevada.”

ANCHOR: NRSC News decided to investigate her role “standing up” for Nevada.

CORTEZ MASTO: “I didn’t help broker this…Cake was already baked by the time we got it to make a decision whether to sign on or not. I wasn’t part of that.”

ANCHOR: So, here she says the deal was already brokered, let’s check back in with that ad.

AD VOICEOVER: “As attorney general, Catherine Cortez Masto fought back.”

ANCHOR: Alright, let’s see exactly how she fought for Nevada families.

CORTEZ MASTO: “Um, I had asked to be a part of it and was not allowed to be a part.”

ANCHOR: Okay, so she bragged about fighting for homeowners, but then admitted she was not involved in the process. Maybe she’ll clarify in her ad.

AD VOICEOVER: “She held banks accountable, and helped get $1.9 billion for Nevada homeowners.”

ANCHOR: Ok, so the ad wasn’t super clarifying, however this clip is.

CORTEZ MASTO: “I can’t answer that. I was not a part of the negotiating team.”

ANCHOR: So, Cortez Masto decided to make an entire ad bragging about a negotiation that she said she wasn’t even a part of. Is she misleading voters? You decide.

ANCHOR: I’m Nikki Mandell with NRSC News.
