"…put the awful legacy of the last eight years behind us."

For American families, Barack Obama’s "awful legacy" means soaring premiums, higher deductibles, additional taxes, and cancelled health plans.

For American workers, Barack Obama’s "awful legacy" means losing the equivalent of 2 million jobs over the next decade.

The path to preventing such staggering job loss for hardworking Americans starts with preventing job growth for Democrat Senate candidates.

Just as with President Obama and his "Lie of the Year," Democrat Senate candidates who voted for or to protect ObamaCare have broken their promises.

On its sixth birthday, ObamaCare has clearly not aged well. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act has not protected patients and has been anything other than affordable:

Arizona

ROOKIE AND RETREAD CANDIDATES:

Rookie and retread candidates like Jason Kander, Catherine Cortez Masto, Maggie Hassan, and Ted Strickland are seeking to continue President Obama’s "awful legacy" through their staunch support for ObamaCare:

Missouri

As its champion in the Missouri legislature, Jason Kander repeatedly voted to support ObamaCare:

  • In January 2010, Kander Voted Against A Resolution Urging The Missouri Congressional Delegation To Vote Against H.R. 3200, The Federal Health Care Reform Legislation. “Urges the Missouri Congressional delegation to vote against H.R. 3200, the federal health care reform legislation.” (House Legislative Journal, p. 93-94, HCR 18, Adopted: 111-46, Kander Voted No, 1/19/10; Missouri House Of Representatives, Accessed 12/1/15)

  • In February 2012, Kander Voted Against A Resolution Expressing “Strong Opposition” To ObamaCare. “Declares the General Assembly’s strong opposition to the newest regulation under the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act which is contrary to the laws of Missouri” (House Legislative Journal, p. 396-397, HCR 41, Adopted: 114-45, Kander Voted No, 2/22/12; Missouri House Of Representatives, Accessed 12/1/15)

  • In April 2012, Kander Voted Against HB 1534, Which Would Declare ObamaCare As Unauthorized By The United States Constitution And Creates Criminal Penalties For Any Government Official Attempting To Enforce The Act. ““Declares the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act as unauthorized by the United States Constitution and creates criminal penalties for persons enforcing or attempting to enforce the act.” (House Legislative Journal, p. 1110-1111, HB 1534, Third Read, Passed: 108-44, Kander Voted No, 4/19/12; Missouri House Of Representatives, Accessed 12/1/15)

  • In 2011, Kander Voted Against HR 39, A Resolution To Urge The Attorney General To Challenge The Constitutional Basis Of ObamaCare. “Calls on the Attorney General to file an independent lawsuit or join 20 state attorneys general in their lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the federal health care reform legislation.” (House Legislative Journal, p. 100-104, HR 39, Adopted: 115-46, Kander Voted No, 1/11/11; Missouri House Of Representatives, Accessed 12/1/15)

Nevada

Just as she ignored the orders of then-Governor Jim Gibbons to file suit against ObamaCare, Catherine Cortez Masto has made clear that she would also ignore the majority of Americans who view the law unfavorably:

  • In September 2015, Cortez Masto Said She Would Have Voted For ObamaCare And Opposed Legislation To Repeal ObamaCare. RALSTON: Let’s talk about healthcare some more. If you had been in the U.S. Senate — I hate to give you a hypothetical but, you know, Joe Heck took votes. I want to know how you would have voted. Would you have voted for the Affordable Care Act? MASTO: Yes, because I think you need to start somewhere…and again, it goes back to this issue of no, it shouldn’t be repealed…" (KLVX’s, "Ralston Live," 9/14/15)

  • In March 2010, Cortez Masto Declined To Join A Lawsuit Suing The Federal Government Over ObamaCare. “Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto said Tuesday she will not join a lawsuit suing the federal government over the recently enacted health care bill. Nevada’s Republican governor, Jim Gibbons, has been hammering Masto to join 14 other attorneys general — mostly his fellow Republicans — and sue over an element of the health care law what will require Americans to have medical insurance or face financial penalties.” (Chris Rizo, “Nevada AG Resists Calls To File Health Care Lawsuit,” Legal Newsline, 3/30/10)

New Hampshire

"Governor Gridlock" Maggie Hassan’s proposed plan to raise $100 million in taxes and fees aligns seamlessly with the burden of more than $565 million in additional taxes over the next decade that ObamaCare will place on New Hampshire families:

  • In November 2009, Hassan Said The House-Passed Health Care Reform Was A “Rational System” That Is “Essential To The Future Of Our Country.” “Our capacity to come together to do this work is being tested as I write. For the first time since Medicare was enacted in 1965, the United States House of Representatives has passed major health care reform; reform that establishes a rational system that will provide every American access to affordable, quality health care. Such a system is essential to the future of our country — our economy, our democracy and, literally, our lives depend on our ability to fix what has become an ailing, wasteful, mediocre-quality albatross of a non-system.” (Maggie Hassan, Op-Ed, “The Confidence To Govern Ourselves,” The Portsmouth Herald, 11/24/09)

  • In April 2010, Hassan Praised ObamaCare And Said It Represented “The Single Largest Tax Break For Small Businesses, Creates Jobs And Tax Cuts.” “New Hampshire state Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-Exeter, and state Sen. Martha Fuller Clark, D-Portsmouth, were also on hand to address the audience and read a letter from absent Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., congratulating the efforts of those involved. Hassan praised the bill by saying it ‘represents the single largest tax break for small businesses, creates jobs and tax cuts and empowers not only the people of New Hampshire but everyone in the country.’” (Joshua Clark, “Health Care Reform Celebrate,” The Portsmouth Herald, 4/25/10)

  • In December 2015, Hassan Announced Her Opposition To The Senate’s Bill To Repeal Parts Of ObamaCare. “U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte supports a plan advanced by Republican leadership this week to repeal what her spokeswoman called ‘the worst provisions’ of the Affordable Care Act, to end Medicaid after 2017 and to redirect funding from Planned Parenthood to community health centers. Gov. Maggie Hassan, who is challenging Ayotte’s 2016 reelection bid, criticized Ayotte on the issue on Wednesday morning…Wednesday, Hassan released a statement: ‘The people of New Hampshire have had enough with Washington politicians like Kelly Ayotte playing games with funding for Planned Parenthood and trying to repeal Medicaid expansion, which would take away health coverage from more than 40,000 Granite Staters and severely hurt our efforts to combat the substance abuse crisis.’” (John DiStaso, “Updated: Ayotte Supports, Hassan, Shaheen Oppose GOP Plan To Repeal Affordable Care Act Provisions,” WMUR, 12/2/15)

Ohio

Perhaps the only way for "Retread" Ted Strickland to try and diminish the loss of more than 350,000 jobs under his watch is to support a policy that would lose the equivalent of 2 million jobs over the next decade:

  • In January 2010, Strickland Said That Even Though The Senate-Passed Version Of ObamaCare Had Weaknesses, He Would Have Voted For It. “BRIAN GOLDSMITH: Do you feel fully comfortable with the health care plan that was passed by the Senate? GOV. STRICKLAND: Well, both the House and the Senate plans have strengths and weaknesses. And I don’t think that it’s possible for anyone to know for sure what the final healthcare reform bill is going to look like. BRIAN GOLDSMITH: If you were a member of the Senate, would you have supported the Senate plan? GOV. STRICKLAND: Oh, I absolutely would have. And I believe that when the final bill is signed into law, it’s going to be a bill that will be hugely beneficial to our country, and to the people of our country.” (Brian Goldsmith, “Political Players : Gov. Strickland Grades Obama,” The Atlantic, 1/14/10)

  • VIDEO: In April 2014, Strickland Said That In Ten Years Americans Would Have As Much Affection For ObamaCare That They Have For Medicare. STRICKLAND: “I said to the President that he should be very proud that they call it Obamacare because my prediction is in ten years from now, people will refer to Obamacare with the same level of affection that they feel toward Medicare. And my prediction is also that when that happens, the Republicans will start referring to it as the Affordable Care Act instead of Obamacare.” (“The Charlie Rose Show,” 4/24/14)

  • Strickland Said That ObamaCare Is Good For Ohio. “FEDERAL HEALTH CARE OVERHAUL; TED STRICKLAND — Supports it. ‘While the bill was not perfect, I believe it is good for Ohio. As a result of health-care reform, nearly 1 million uninsured Ohioans will, for the first time, have a pathway to affordable health insurance.’” (“Governor: On The Issues,” The Columbus Dispatch, 10/31/10)
