When the agreement was announced a year ago today, Cortez Masto promised to ‘take the coming days’ to review it.
Days turned into weeks, and a month later, Cortez Masto could only refer back to her initial statement when The Hill tried to get an answer. The reason quickly became clear, as Cortez Masto came out in support of the deal just days after her political godfather Harry Reid gave her the green light by supporting it himself.
And who could forget the embarrassing spectacle of Cortez Masto being unable to identify a single element of the deal that raised concern even though she expressed trepidation when announcing her support:

RALSTON: I understand that, but if you’re going to come out and say that you have concerns with elements of the deal, why would you come out and say something that specific and not give specifics? CORTEZ MASTO: Well, I am giving specifics. I’m telling you, I looked at the agreement. Of course, like many, there were concerns about elements of the deal. But at the end of the day, it is the agreement and we have to move forward.” (Ralston Live, 9/15/16)
A year later, the U.N. has chastised Iran for failing to comply with the spirit of the agreement. The “new chapter” of Iran’s relationship with the world began with American troops taken into Iranian custody. And a bombshell report revealed that the Obama administration lied to and deceived the American public in order to get Congress on board with the deal.
And not a word from Cortez Masto.
The message is clear – national security and Nevada families take a back seat to the partisan goals of Harry Reid, Barack Obama, and Washington Democrats.
