Phil Bredesen has told Tennesseans he’s from a “more sophisticated world,” and voters are getting to see what that means, as the Tennessean released a report detailing more than half a million dollars in shady tax breaks Bredesen benefited from.

According to the story, “Former Gov. Phil Bredesen has avoided paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in local taxes thanks to a 1976 law, according to a review of his property tax records.”

What makes the matter even more ridiculous is that Bredesen had no problem criticizing the GOP tax cuts helping middle-class Tennesseans as “crumbs.” Meanwhile he was skimming taxpayers out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

And to think all of this from a man who, if elected, would be one of the wealthiest members of the U.S. Senate.

“Phil Bredesen’s shady tax breaks reveal he is more than happy to play by a different set of rules than hardworking Tennesseans,” said NRSC Spokesman Michael McAdams. “Bredesen gamed the system to save himself more than half a million dollars and only reversed course when he was caught red-handed. Tennessee voters can’t afford a politician like Phil Bredesen, who’s more concerned with his bank account than their interests.”
