Joe Manchin is clearly rattled by the NRA’s six-figure investment in defeating him this November, as well as his “D” rating from the pro-Second Amendment group if his new TV ad is any indication.

Manchin, who has sponsored some of the most sweeping gun control legislation taken up by Congress in years, released an ad featuring him holding a rifle and vowing to protect the Second Amendment. But actions speak louder than campaign ads, and gun rights advocates have taken notice that Manchin doesn’t have their backs. The ad also features other whoppers, including a claim he’s fighting to protect our borders, despite his pro-amnesty, anti-wall record. Manchin can lie in his TV ads all he wants, but West Virginians already know that on the issues that matter to them, they can’t trust Washington Joe.

“Posing with a rifle for his TV ad isn’t going to make West Virginians forget about Joe Manchin’s anti-gun record,” said NRSC Spokesman Bob Salera. “When supporters of the Second Amendment needed him most, Manchin turned his back and sided with the radical anti-gun extremists in his party.”
