Ted Strickland’s 2016 is off to a bad start, and continues to get worse.

In a primary race growing increasingly more competitive, it’s now being reported that a super PAC supporting P.G. Sittenfeld will spend considerable cash ($700,000) against the Democratic establishment’s pick, “Retread” Ted Strickland attacking his flip-flop on gun control.

What they are saying about Sittenfeld’s ad buy:

  • “Sittenfeld, however, has gained attention recently for attacking Strickland’s record on gun control…New Leadership has been running 95-second Web ads criticizing Strickland on the gun issue, too. Those ads will be cut and more information about Sittenfeld will be added for the TV campaign, to run Feb. 13-29. Neil Kammerman, one of the PAC’s principles, said the ad buy will come to around $700,000.” – The Cincinnati Enquirer, Super PAC will promote PG Sittenfeld, slam Ted Strickland with ads

  • “A Super PAC supporting P.G. Sittenfeld’s bid for U.S. Senate will launch a six-figure TV ad campaign next month across the state. The PAC—called New Leadership for Ohio—will spend about $700,000 on ads slated to run in Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, and Youngstown.” – The Cincinnati Enquirer, Pro-Sittenfeld PAC to launch TV ads

  • “A super-PAC supporting Democratic City Councilman P.G. Sittenfeld’s underdog bid for Ohio Senate will spend almost it’s entire 2015 fundraising haul on a new ad buy meant to boost his name recognition while hammering his opponent on gun control. The almost $700,000 buy comes less than two months before the state’s primary and attacks former Gov. Ted Strickland…” – The Hill, Ohio Senate primary race heats up with $700K ad buy

  • “TV TIMEOUT – Pro-Sittenfeld super PAC prepares $700,000 worth of contrast ads: ‘The super PAC supporting P.G. Sittenfeld for Senate will start airing TV ads contrasting Sittenfeld and fellow Democrat Ted Strickland in mid-February, one month before the Ohio primaries, founders of the PAC said Thursday. Neil Kammerman, a Democratic media strategist who co-founded the group, New Leadership for Ohio, said it will spend $700,000 running statewide TV and digital ads from Feb. 13 through the end of the month. … The group’s TV ad is not yet available, but Paul De Marco, a Cincinnati attorney who also helped form the pro-Sittenfeld group, said the spot will be about gun control.’" – Politico, Morning Score

  • “…New Leadership for Ohio, said it will spend $700,000 running statewide TV and digital ads from Feb. 13 through the end of the month…The group’s TV ad is not yet available, but Paul De Marco, a Cincinnati attorney who also helped form the pro-Sittenfeld group, said the spot will be about gun control, which has been a focus of Sittenfeld’s campaign and New Leadership for Ohio’s early digital advertising.” – Politico, Sittenfeld super PAC starting $700,000 TV ad blitz in February
