But just as Murphy has seemingly done with every other piece of his resume, he’s lied about this important piece as well.

The Congressman who claimed he “spent several years as a certified public accountant working for Deloitte & Touche” actually only spent eight months in that role. And despite claiming that he spent nearly three years in the position of “audit senior” at the company, documents show that Murphy was actually an assistant at least until the point when he applied for a CPA license. Politico has a full report:

“Rep. Patrick Murphy has cited his ‘several years’ as a certified public accountant when building his public brand, including running television ads touting his CPA status, but his CPA licensure records show he only worked as a practicing CPA for less than a year…

“Though he said he ‘spent several years’ as a CPA for the firm, and his 2012 campaign website said he ‘joined the respected accounting firm of Deloitte and Touche as a CPA’ after he graduated, he had his CPA license for about nine months while he worked for the firm at its Miami office, according to Murphy’s Colorado CPA licensure records and his LinkedIn profile…

“The Murphy campaign took more than 48 hours to provide an on-the-record statement that did not answer any of the questions POLITICO Florida asked…

“Murphy graduated from the University of Miami in 2006, and started working for Deloitte and Touche in Sept. 2007. But Murphy wasn’t licensed as a CPA then, in Florida or any other state. He would not get licensed for nearly two more years.

“On his 2009 CPA application, he listed his position with the company as an ‘audit assistant,’ though his LinkedIn profile lists his position with the company as an ‘audit senior.’” (Daniel Ducassi, “Murphy Overstated Length Of CPA Experience,” Politico, 6/6/16)

This is the third time in a matter of weeks that Murphy has been busted – and he still hasn’t dug himself out of the hole created by lying about his academic record or the work that he did at one of his father’s companies.

Just because Murphy’s sole qualification for office is a rich father who will bankroll his campaigns, doesn’t mean he can go around making up a biography to sell to voters.

Murphy owes Floridians an explanation as to why he repeatedly inflated his biography – or at the very least, how he ever could have expected to get away with it.
