As the Democrats’ government shutdown supported by Minnesota Senate primary candidates Peggy Flanagan and Angie Craig nears one month, funding for SNAP is scheduled to run out this week, jeopardizing assistance for over 450,000 Minnesotans and over 170,000 kids.
“Radical transgender crusader Peggy Flanagan and establishment-favorite Angie Craig, would rather keep the government shut down to give free healthcare to illegal aliens than ensure over 170,000 Minnesota kids don’t go hungry,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia. “Minnesota families won’t have food on the table as a consequence of Democrats barreling farther to the left in their messy Senate primary.”
Background:
- Craig already voted to shut down the government in the U.S. House, and there’s no doubt Craig would vote with Chuck Schumer if elected to the Senate.
- On October 10, 2025, the Department of Agriculture sent a letter to state agencies advising state processors to “hold their November issuance files and delay transmission to State EBT vendors until further notice.” The letter stated that there were only enough funds to keep the SNAP program going through October 2025.
- Peggy Flanagan said “Democrats in Congress can’t back down” on keeping the government shut down.
- Chuck Schumer said, “Every day gets better for [Democrats],” reaffirming that this shutdown is political leverage in their fight to give illegal aliens free healthcare.
- Democrats’ partisan proposal to reopen the government demands free healthcare for illegal aliens and gutting the historic $50 billion investment in rural healthcare delivered by President Trump’s Working Family Tax Cuts law.
