After Senate Republicans passed historic legislation that cuts taxes for Tennessee families and businesses, voters deserve to know where Phil Bredesen stands on President Trump’s tax plan.

Given Bredesen’s long history of supporting higher taxes, Tennesseans should fully expect him to fall in line with Senate Democrats and their radical plans to raise taxes. As Governor, Bredesen was responsible for raising taxes and fees by nearly $1 billion.

“Tennesseans deserve to know if Phil Bredesen will be anything but a rubber stamp for D.C. Democrats’ liberal agenda,” said NRSC Spokesman Michael McAdams. “Voters can’t afford electing another Democratic politician committed to saddling them with higher taxes.”

Background:

Taxes And Fees In Tennessee Soared Close To $1 Billion During Bredesen’s Time As Governor. “Departing Gov. Phil Bredesen says his successor can run state government without a sales tax hike, but the record shows that, while Bredesen didn’t raise the sales levy, other taxes and fees soared close to $1 billion on his watch.” (Andy Sher, “Bredesen Tax Legacy May Be Tough Act To Follow,” Chattanooga Times Free Press, 12/28/10)
