Like the polo players on the fields by his mansion on Fisher Island, Daddy Murphy has some stiff competition. DC elites raised the stakes this morning when it comes to who can spend the most cash on Privileged Patrick’s behalf.

The Miami Herald reports that Washington Democrats just went all-in to solidify Patrick Murphy as the establishment candidate with a Barack Obama radio ad paid for by the DSCC.

As Floridians face rate hikes as high as 44% and more than $7.1 billion in additional taxes over the next decade thanks to ObamaCare, we’re not certain that we could have composed a more damaging script ourselves:

"In Congress, I could always count on Patrick to have my back. He’s been there for me when I needed him," Obama says, asking listeners to support Murphy in the Aug. 30 primary.

"Establishment" now joins "domestic violence-linked" and "shady" as the types of contributions necessary to bail out Privileged Patrick’s primary effort – or lack thereof.

We also couldn’t have put it any better than did Alan Grayson when he was asked last week about Privileged Patrick’s close ties to the Washington establishment:

MICHAEL PUTNEY: Is Patrick Murphy, who has been endorsed by the president, the vice president, they’ve both been in Florida to raise money for him, is he a “callow tool”?

ALAN GRAYSON: Yes he is.

PUTNEY: Why?

GRAYSON: Because he does whatever he’s told by the big shots. The bosses boss him around, he does whatever the lobbyists want, whatever the leadership wants and basically he gets nothing done. You know, I’ve been selected as the most effective Member of Congress by Slate Magazine, a different organization named him the least effective Member of Congress and sadly that’s what the political bosses want. They want somebody who’s a “yes man.” I’m not a “yes man.”

Just like the millions required to drag Katie McGinty’s primary campaign over the finish line, the DSCC and its dark money allies appear poised to waste even more precious resources linking another failed recruit to Obama’s failed legacy.

Perhaps in exchange for how not to go about the fallout of getting caught in a lie about one’s academic credentials, McGinty can teach Privileged Patrick how not to go about running a messy primary campaign.
