Joe Manchin’s demand that President Trump not appoint a conservative to the Supreme Court is earning him praise from the left as Democrats rally to attempt to block Justice Kennedy’s replacement, and raising questions as to whether Manchin will join in his fellow Washington Democrats’ obstruction.
On Friday, Manchin warned President Trump against appointing a pro-life judge to the Court, to the delight of his fellow Washington Democrats. Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America, praised Manchin and urged him to “hold the line” against President Trump’s pick. This is just the latest episode in Manchin’s transformation into a darling of pro-abortion groups, with the Democrat previously earning applause for his votes in favor of continued taxpayer funding of the nation’s leading abortion provider, Planned Parenthood.
Manchin has a clear choice in front of him. Will he join his fellow Democrats and pro-abortion activists and try to block a qualified, conservative Supreme Court nominee? Or will he stand with West Virginians and support President Trump’s pick for the court?
