Tina Smith’s time in office has been nothing short of a disaster, as her major accomplishments have been recklessly voting to shut down the government and consistently lying to her constituents. And now her own party has had enough, with Trump-hating impeachment advocate Richard Painter announcing he’s challenging Smith for Minnesota’s Democratic Senate nomination.

Painter’s arrival will force Smith to go even further to the left and puts her between a rock and a hard place in a state that continues to trend right. Will Smith join Painter’s unpopular crusade to impeach President Trump? Or will she split with Painter and risk alienating her base?

“Richard Painter’s arrival is disaster for Tina Smith as she will be forced to spend precious time and resources fending off his campaign,” said NRSC Spokesman Michael McAdams. “While Smith and Painter fight to be the most anti-Trump candidate, Minnesota voters will see that both candidates are too extreme to represent their interests.”
