Folks –

With outgoing Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid holding fundraisers across the country for Catherine Cortez Masto, the Hotline’s Josh Kraushaar reports that she only raised $1.1 million.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that Cortez Masto has done barely any public events in Nevada and her website still has no content on it. This raises the question what is Harry Reid’s handpicked candidate doing?

If you are reporting on this news, then below is a statement from the NRSC:

“Between her sparse public schedule and her liberal mentor Harry Reid holding fundraisers for her across the country, it’s embarrassing that Catherine Cortez Masto could only cobble together $1.1 million. Something is wrong as either Reid’s machine isn’t working anymore or people can’t get excited for Catherine Cortez Masto.” – NRSC spokesman Jahan Wilcox

BACKGROUND …

In An Attempt To Boost Her Fundraising Operation The DSCC Endorsed Catherine Cortez Masto The Day She Announced Her Campaign. “Former Nevada attorney general Catherine Cortez Masto announced Wednesday that she will run for the Senate seat being vacated by Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid in 2016, a move that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee swiftly embraced. Cortez Masto announced her decision to run for the seat in an e-mail to supporters, acknowledging outright that the race will likely receive enormous attention from national political groups eager to sway control of the Senate. … Cortez Masto has been widely expected to make a bid for the seat. Reid has pledged to back her. And the DSCC endorsed her on Wednesday, signaling its hopes of avoiding a potentially bloody primary which could hurt the party’s chances of keeping the seat.” (Jose A. DelReal, “Catherine Cortez Masto Announces Bid To Succeed Harry Reid In The Senate, Gets DSCC Backing,” The Washington Post, 4/8/15)
