Washington, D.C. – Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee is holding a hearing on serial sex abuser and child molester Larry Nassar. Victims are speaking before the committee about the years of abuse they suffered at the hands of Nassar, who was convicted of abusing hundreds of gymnasts.
As we listen to these tragic stories, Senate Democrats should explain why they voted UNANIMOUSLY to send incarcerated individuals, including Larry Nassar, a taxpayer-funded stimulus check. As the Washington Post reported, back in March, Nassar received a $1,400 stimulus check as a part of Senate Democrats’ so-called “COVID relief bill.”
What’s even worse, instead of paying court-ordered restitution to his victims, Nassar used this tax money to pay for expenses in prison. Do Senate Democrats think it’s OKAY to fund Larry Nassar’s email and phone privileges while his brave victims aren’t getting the court-ordered payments they deserve?
