New reporting has exposed Cooper’s “dirty secret” — he owns Duke Energy stock, has been taking their campaign contributions to fund his political career, and oversaw a revolving door between Duke Energy and his staff.
Cooper has been in Duke Energy’s pocket for decades.
- Has taken more than $440K from Duke Energy and its executives, including 10K from their PAC this cycle and 360K to the DGA while Cooper was Chair.
- Oversaw a “revolving door” between his staff and Duke Energy, including a senior advisor who lobbied for Duke Energy while Cooper was Governor.
Cooper’s investments in stocks like Duke Energy helped turn him into a multimillionaire.
- His family is making over $1 million a year thanks to his sweetheart solar deal which blocked lower energy prices for North Carolinians.
All the while, North Carolinians paid the highest energy costs in the southeast, the highest healthcare costs in the nation, and 85% more for a home. Cooper’s own appointees greenlit Duke Energy rate hikes that are still hurting North Carolinians.
“While Roy Cooper became a multimillionaire over his 40-year career in politics, North Carolinians suffered from record-high costs and their safety was sabotaged,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia.
