As Chuck Schumer’s government shutdown nears one month, funding for SNAP is scheduled to run out this week, jeopardizing assistance for nearly 1.4 million North Carolinians and over 500,000 kids. Roy Cooper is Chuck Schumer’s handpicked candidate, and there’s no doubt he would vote with Schumer to shut down the federal government. Chuck Schumer said, “Every day gets better for [Democrats],” reaffirming that this shutdown is political leverage in their fight to give illegal aliens free healthcare.

“Roy Cooper is hiding in Chuck Schumer’s windowless basement to avoid accountability for his radical left agenda and failures,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia. “There’s no doubt Radical Roy would let over 500,000 North Carolina kids go hungry all to give free healthcare to illegal aliens and to appease the far-left.”

Background:

  • On October 10, 2025, the Department of Agriculture sent a letter to state agencies advising state processors to “hold their November issuance files and delay transmission to State EBT vendors until further notice.” The letter stated that there were only enough funds to keep the SNAP program going through October 2025.
  • Democrats’ partisan proposal to reopen the government demands free healthcare for illegal aliens and gutting the historic $50 billion investment in rural healthcare delivered by President Trump’s Working Family Tax Cuts law.
  • Cooper repeatedly recycles old social media photos instead of actually campaigning, exposing his “light” campaign schedule that keeps him in Chuck Schumer’s windowless basement.
