Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer continued to cower in fear of the angry far left today, hurrying out of his meeting with Judge Neil Gorsuch to complain to reporters that the nominee would not break with longstanding precedent and discuss how he would rule on cases likely to come before the Court.
As the left continues to throw public tantrums, including protesting outside of Schumer’s Brooklyn home after he was seen as being insufficiently combative toward President Trump, Senate Democrats have been sent scrambling, unsure how to react. A number of far left Democrats, including Elizabeth Warren, Sherrod Brown, and Tammy Baldwin were quick to voice their opposition to Judge Gorsuch before even meeting with him. Others, including Judiciary Committee ranking member, and longtime liberal stalwart, Dianne Feinstein have committed to giving the nominee a fair shake, with Feinstein calling him “…a very caring person and he’s obviously legally very smart…I think we are dealing with someone who is impressive…”
Schumer was careful to not offend the left, bashing Gorsuch at his first opportunity and attacking his integrity. Schumer also once again threatened to filibuster the nominee and hold the seat open. So much for #WeNeedNine!
“Chuck Schumer is clearly more concerned with pacifying the far left than with preserving his Red State Democrat colleagues’ seats,” said NRSC Communications Director Katie Martin. “Under Chuck Schumer’s leadership, Senate Democrats have moved to the left of even San Francisco liberal Dianne Feinstein, much to the dismay of Democrats hoping to be reelected in 2018.”
