Schumer and National Dems looking for a C-team candidate to run against Joni Ernst

Washington, D.C.— Chuck Schumer’s first and second choices for U.S. Senate in Iowa now have both declined to run against Senator Joni Ernst. Following the news that Cindy Axne, who was the DSCC’s second choice behind Tom Vilsack, has now declined to run for the U.S. Senate, National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesperson Nathan Brand issued this statement:

“Chuck Schumer and Washington Democrats are now stuck recruiting third-tier Senate candidates in Iowa. Democrats have rebuffed Schumer’s wooing as they know Senator Joni Ernst’s record of delivering results for Iowans puts her in a strong position for re-election.”

Cindy Axne’s announcement today follows Stacey Abrams decision not to run in Georgia, handing Schumer “another recruiting blow.”
