The more we learn about former President Obama’s Iran nuclear deal, the clearer it becomes that the deal was a disaster that makes our country less safe.

A new report from Politico finds that in addition to the release of Iranian prisoners concurrent with implementation of the deal, some of whom had ties to a trafficking network that supplied Iran’s nuclear program, the Obama administration dropped charges against fourteen fugitives. Among these fourteen were men wanted for conspiring to supply Iran with weapons, bomb making components, and nuclear technology. This new information is especially troubling given the ongoing threat posed by Iran’s ballistic missile program, which the Obama administration declined to address in its negotiations, as well as last year’s revelation that the deal would likely fund terrorism.

As more and more information comes to light, it raises the question of what Senate Democrats were thinking when they allowed the Iran nuclear deal to move forward without first investigating what the deal entailed. In effect, with their votes, Senate Democrats allowed dangerous arms dealers to go free, allowed terrorists to receive funding, did nothing about Iran’s missile program, and in exchange got just a delay in Iran’s timetable for developing a nuclear weapon.

“Senate Democrats gave Obama a blank check on Iran, allowing dangerous arms dealers and other threats to our national security to go free,” said NRSC Communications Director Katie Martin. “Voters will remember that is was Democrats who made our country less safe by voting for former President Obama’s disastrous Iran Deal when they head to the polls in 2018.”
