Washington, D.C. – Today, Senate Democrats shockingly voted against a commonsense Motion to Instruct (MTIs) from Sen. Tim Scott (SC) that would require that any new legislation providing for new mandates of greenhouse gas emissions not be enacted unless similar mandates are enacted by the Peoples Republic of China.
Given China’s aggressive pollution and Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, these measures should be no-brainers.
However, vulnerable Democrat Senators like Mark Kelly, Maggie Hassan, Raphael Warnock, and Catherine Cortez Masto voted AGAINST the Scott provision.
Not only are these votes completely unjustifiable, but they amount to a massive appeasement to China and Russia.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “If you support addressing climate change, but don’t stand up to China, you are essentially appeasing the world’s largest polluter. If you don’t cut off funding to Putin at every turn, you are helping continue his brutal bombardment of Ukraine. Today, Democrats showed that neither of these two things are as important as saving their Green New Deal fantasies.”
