Washington, D.C. – Joe Biden loves saying his Build Back Better (aka “Build Back Broke”) plan will help the American people, but it really just helps special interest groups. The bill is full of giveaways to niche groups that offer no help to working American families.

Here’s just a taste of the massive waste in the Build Back Broke bill:

  • $10 billion for a civilian “climate corps.”
  • $4.1 billion tax break for those who buy electric bikes.
  • $2.5 billion for “tree equity,” whatever the heck that is.
  • $2.5 billion to help “contingency fee” lawyers recover their expenses.
  • $1.9 billion for a payroll tax credit for local newspapers and broadcasters.
  • $50 million to promote the use of doulas.
  • $35 million tax break for independent music producers.

These huge, embarrassing line items are in addition to tax hikes for the middle class, tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires, and amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants. It appears that in order to pass such unpopular legislation, it costs billions of dollars in carve-outs to special interest groups to buy their support.

Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “President Biden and Senate Democrats are committed to spending our nation into oblivion.  The giveaways to special interests in the Build Back Broke plan are embarrassing as hardworking Americans struggle with the rising cost of inflation caused by Democrats’ overspending. Vulnerable Democrats like Maggie Hassan, Raphael Warnock, Mark Kelly, Catherine Cortez Masto, and Michael Bennet will be held responsible for their recklessness.”
