Senate Democrats are taking their complaining over losing the election in November to a new, shameful level today by “boycotting” markup hearings for Treasury Secretary nominee Steven Mnuchin and Health and Human Services Secretary nominee Rep. Tom Price.
By refusing to go to work this morning, Democrats hope to further delay confirmation of President Trump’s cabinet. But this is only the latest delay and obstruction tactic by Senate Democrats, whose intransigence has left 17 of President Trump’s nominees to head major departments or agencies still waiting to be confirmed. In stark contrast, Republicans worked with Democrats in 2009, and just seven of former President Obama’s nominees were awaiting votes at this point in his presidency.
“Someone needs to remind Senate Democrats that the election is over, and they lost,” said NRSC Spokesman Bob Salera. “The American people are sick of Senate Democrats’ political grandstanding, and these petty delay tactics are a great illustration of why they will remain in the minority for years to come.”text in italic
