Senate Democrats are beginning to tip their hands as to their agenda should they succeed in their longshot bid for the majority. And first on the docket will be a tax hike.

Yesterday, Vermont socialist Bernie Sanders, a member of Chuck Schumer’s leadership team, promised that taxes would go up under a Democrat majority. Senate Democrats, including those on the 2018 ballot in states carried by President Trump, have marched in lockstep with their party in opposing tax cuts, and this is just another indication that they are comfortable running as the party of higher taxes. Red state Democrats are in for a rude awakening if they think tax hikes are a winning message for next year’s election.

“If Senate Democrats think promising to raise taxes is a winning strategy in 2018, they have completely lost touch with reality,” said NRSC Communications Director Katie Martin. “Democrats up in 2018 will own their leadership’s radical, tax-hiking agenda, and it will cost them their seats when folks head to the polls next November.”
