WASHINGTON – Fueled by an obsession to obstruct any and all Republican progress, Senate Democrats voted not only to recklessly shut the government down, but against a six-year extension of the CHIP program they claim to support, all in an effort to appease their liberal base.
Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and his cronies are desperate to distract voters from the bonuses, wage increases and bigger paychecks that have occurred as a result of the GOP tax plan. Resorting back to partisan politics, Democrats are attempting to block funding for crucial programs that aid the elderly, veterans and children to score cheap political points. And despite grandstanding on the issue for weeks, Democrats voted against an extension of CHIP, a program that provides low cost health insurance to 8.9 million children.
“Senate Democrats’ reckless decision to shut the government down and take health insurance away from millions of children shows they’d rather play partisan games than do their jobs,” said NRSC Communications Director Katie Martin. “Their obsession with obstruction has now led Senate Democrats to vote against critical national defense funding and extending CHIP, a program they claim to support.”
