Rep. Axne embraces radical, pro-abortion agenda Americans reject
Washington, D.C. – For over 40 years, the Hyde Amendment has been in place to protect American taxpayers from being forced to pay for abortions. And for nearly 50 years, Congress has also upheld the Helms Amendment, which protects taxpayer funds from being sent overseas to pay for elective abortions.
That was the case until yesterday, when House Democrats – including Senate hopeful Cindy Axne – voted to kill both the Hyde and Helms Amendments. Just goes to show you how far Left today’s Democrat Party has gone.
Like the radical Left members of her party, Cindy Axne has embraced an extreme, pro-abortion agenda that fails to protect taxpayers. And she is fiercely out of touch with the American people on this issue. An NRSC poll taken this year shows that an overwhelming majority of Americans oppose funding overseas abortions. Democrats are simply out of touch.
Statement from NRSC Spokeswoman Katharine Cooksey: “Democrats in Washington, including those running for Senate, have fully embraced a radical, pro-abortion agenda. They voted to force taxpayers to fund abortions, including elective abortions overseas, throwing out decades of bipartisan consensus and rejecting the will of the American people. That only demonstrates one thing: the Democrat Party has been taken over by the radical Left. Iowans deserve a leader who will fight for life and fight to protect their taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars, and Cindy Axne proved it isn’t her.”
