WASHINGTON — Despite universal obstruction from Senate Democrats, Senate Republicans and President Trump have delivered on the agenda they promised the American people. Here’s a rundown of the Senate Majority’s historic accomplishments in 2017:
- Passed comprehensive tax relief legislation, which cut taxes for middle-class families and American businesses. The tax legislation:
- Cuts individual tax rates at every level
- Nearly doubles the standard deduction
- Doubles the child tax credit from $1,000 to $2,000
- Provides a family of four making $73,000 more than $2,000 in tax savings
- Evens the playing field for American businesses by cutting the corporate tax rate from 35% to a more globally competitive 21%
- Repealed Obamacare’s disastrous individual mandate tax
- Eliminated a record number of job-killing regulations, providing approximately $60 billion in regulatory relief and saving Americans more than 10.7 million hours of paperwork
- Confirmed conservative Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, along with 12 circuit court judges, a record total for a President’s first year in office
- Created an atmosphere that’s spurred economic growth and job creation
- Unemployment is at its lowest rate since February 2001
- Consumer confidence is at a 17-year high
- Nearly 2 million jobs were added in 2017
“While Senate Democrats have doubled down on their obstructionist tactics, Republicans have been busy getting results for the American people,” said NRSC Communications Director Katie Martin. “Voters elected a Republican Senate Majority to get things done, and Democrats are going to have to wear their do-nothing record heading into the 2018 elections.”
