Yesterday, Sherrod Brown shared some helpful tips from the CDC on staying healthy during flu season. But his decision to vote for the Schumer Shutdown threatens to suspend the CDC’s influenza program.

If Brown and his Democrat colleagues get their way, the government will shut down at midnight, shuttering vital government programs, including the flu program that guides government response as well as immunization efforts. The Schumer Shutdown would be particularly ill-timed for the CDC, as the country is currently in the midst of one of the worst flu seasons in years, with nearly 75,000 confirmed cases and thirty deaths among children. To compound matters, Brown’s shutdown vote would also put at risk health insurance for 8.9 million children, including 223,583 in Ohio.

“Instead of fighting for Ohio children, Sherrod Brown has decided to join Chuck Schumer and his liberal cronies in their partisan political games,” said NRSC Spokesman Bob Salera. “Sherrod Brown’s irresponsible decision to shut down the CDC’s influenza program in the middle of the worst flu season in recent memory will put children’s lives at risk.”
