Today, the House Homeland Security Committee held an urgent field hearing in Phoenix, looking at border security and stopping the dangerous flow of opioids across the southern border, but Rep. Kyrsten Sinema was nowhere to be found.

After making a brief appearance for the cameras, Sinema decided to pack up early and head for the exits – the only member of the panel who refused to stay for the entire hearing. During the brief time she was present, Sinema bragged about her “commitment to a more secure border and to addressing the opiate crisis” but just last year voted against providing better security at the ports of entry where the vast majority of drugs, including heroin, enter the United States.

“Arizonans deserve more than lip service from Kyrsten Sinema on addressing our porous border and stopping the dangerous flow of opiates into this nation,” said NRSC Spokesman Calvin Moore. “These are real problems that require real leadership, but Sinema would rather pack up early and just go home. If Kyrsten Sinema won’t stand up and fight for Arizona, then maybe she should reconsider asking voters for a promotion.”
