Kyrsten Sinema just voted to both end CHIP and shut down the government, denying funding to vital government services, including critical national defense programs.
Sinema’s vote to shut down the government, and take away children’s health insurance for purely political reasons, is completely reckless. Just a few days ago, Sinema said “22,000 Arizona children depends on KidsCare for health coverage. If CHIP is not reauthorized, Arizona will be one of the first states to run out of funding.”
And yet, Sinema just literally just voted against a six-year extension, jeopardizing health insurance for 88,224 Arizona children who rely on the program.
This shutdown is the result of Sinema’s partisan loyalty to Nancy Pelosi and liberals in Washington, and comes at the expense of troops, taxpayers and hardworking Americans.
“Kyrsten Sinema had to choose between doing what’s best for Arizona and playing partisan games, and she chose partisanship,” said NRSC Communications Director Katie Martin. “By voting against extending CHIP, critical funding for our troops and programs Arizona families rely on, Sinema is once again proving that her loyalty lies with Nancy Pelosi and her liberal colleagues in Washington, not with Arizonans.”
