Today is the six-year anniversary of Roy Cooper creating his soft-on-crime Task Force for Racial Equity in Criminal Justice. Cooper’s Task Force recommended dangerous policies like eliminating cash bail, the same policy that allowed Iryna Zarutska’s murderer to roam free.
“Roy Cooper and his soft-on-crime task force pushed reckless policies like eliminating cash bail and defunding the police which emboldens criminals while making North Carolina’s communities less safe,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia.
Cooper said, “I look forward to implementing your strong recommendations,” embracing the task force’s soft-on-crime policies:
Eliminating cash bail

More social workers and less police officers, another way of defunding the police.

More citations and less arrests of criminals.

Changing criminal code to “reduce the number of crimes” and lowering drug offenses from felony status.

Mandatory DEI training for all court personnel on “structural racism, implicit bias, and cultural awareness.”
