WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Senate is expected to vote on funding the federal government. There is no question where Texas Democrats stand — Colin Allred, Jasmine Crockett, and James Talarico all support Schumer’s reckless shutdown. Senate Democrats’ radical demands include $1.5 trillion in new spendingfree healthcare for illegal immigrants, and cutting $50 billion in funding for rural hospitals provided by the Working Family Tax Cuts.

“Chuck Schumer and the entire Democrat Party are holding the federal government hostage in a ridiculous attempt to force their woke wish list on Americans,” said NRSC Communications Director Joanna Rodriguez. “Every single Texas Democrat has said they would vote with Schumer to demand free healthcare for illegal aliens, leave military families without pay, farmers and ranchers without certainty for programs they count on, and vital healthcare and housing programs for veterans at risk.”

Texas Democrats support Chuck Schumer’s ridiculous government shutdown:

  • Jasmine Crockett voted against the Continuing Resolution in the House of Representatives.
  • On September 22, 2025, Colin Allred said that Democrats in Washington “have leverage” and “they need to use it.”
  • James Talarico joined MSNBC on September 9, 2025, and when asked about a shutdown said, “all options need to be on the table,” and that Democrats need to use all the tools in their toolbox.

Schumer’s Shutdown would:

Democrats are demanding $1.5 trillion in spending increases to end the shutdown and:

  • Cut $50 billion in rural health care funding
  • Restore Biden-era free healthcare for illegal aliens
  • Expand taxpayer-funded Medicaid to unemployed, able-bodied individuals without dependents under 14 years old
  • Eliminate Republican-passed fraud protections for taxpayer benefits like Medicaid and SNAP
