WASHINGTON, D.C. — As the government shutdown supported by Texas’ Senate Democrat primary candidates nears one month, funding for SNAP is scheduled to run out this week, jeopardizing assistance for over 3.4 million Texans.

“As the government shutdown supported by Texas Democrats rages on, over 3.4 million Texans are now at risk of not receiving the assistance they need to buy groceries and feed their kids,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Samantha Cantrell. “Texas deserves a Senator who will fight for families, not Jasmine Crockett, Colin Allred, and James Talarico who would prioritize free healthcare for illegal aliens over starving children.”

The Jasmine Crockett, Colin Allred, and James Talarico backed Schumer Shutdown threatens vital assistance for families:

  • On October 10, 2025, the Department of Agriculture sent a letter to state agencies advising state processors to “hold their November issuance files and delay transmission to State EBT vendors until further notice.” The letter stated that there were only enough funds to keep the SNAP program going through October 2025.
  • Chuck Schumer said, “Every day gets better for [Democrats],” reaffirming that this shutdown is political leverage in their fight to give illegal aliens free healthcare.
  • Democrats have voted 12 times to keep the government closed and Iowans are the ones paying the price.
  • In Texas, there are around 3,455,000 total enrollees in SNAP, and an estimated 1,341,000 who are children.
  • Democrats’ partisan proposal to reopen the government demands free healthcare for illegal aliens and gutting the historic $50 billion investment in rural healthcare delivered by President Trump’s Working Family Tax Cuts law.
  • Jasmine Crockett voted against the Continuing Resolution in the House of Representatives.
  • On September 22, 2025, Colin Allred said that Democrats in Washington “have leverage” and “they need to use it.”
  • James Talarico joined MSNBC on September 9, 2025, and when asked about a shutdown said, “all options need to be on the table,” and that Democrats need to use all the tools in their toolbox.
