Heidi Heitkamp is facing intense backlash after turning her back on North Dakotans and voting against President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

And Heitkamp’s response to the voters who trusted her to represent their voice in Washington? “That’s the way it just goes.”

Here’s a look at some of the reactions to Heitkamp’s betrayal, which even her own allies can’t spin.

“That vote today is going to sink her,” said Lee Klein, a retired insurance executive who supports Ms. Heitkamp.

“I can sit here and lie to you about it and say it’s not a big deal but it’s a big deal, it’s a really big deal,” said Heitkamp’s own brother, Joel.

Now, with Election Day four weeks away and ballots already being cast, North Dakotans are preparing to vote Heitkamp out of office, because when you don’t support the values and positions of your constituents, well, that’s the way it just goes.
