With Hillary Clinton campaigning in Jason Kander’s back yard today, the Kander-Clinton national security record is on full display for Missouri voters.

Kander was an early supporter of Clinton’s presidential campaign, saying he was ‘thrilled’ to back her candidacy. The two candidates are two peas in a pod when it comes to national security and foreign policy, painting a very clear picture that Jason Kander just doesn’t get it when it comes to keeping America safe.

As the country struggles with the question of how to combat ISIS and faces the threat of terrorism on American soil, Kander’s far-left foreign policy answers are wildly out of touch with Missouri families. It’s likely of little comfort to concerned voters that Kander has said he wants to use the Peace Corps fight terrorism:

As a progressive, my beef with President Bush isn’t that he’s fighting a war, it’s that he’s doing it wrong. I want to win every bit as badly as he does, if not more, but I believe that means the symbol of America can’t just be a soldier with an M-16. It must also be a peace corp volunteer armed with the knowledge to improve crop yields, an American diplomat holding court on the rule of law, and a doctor curing the sick in a village clinic… Young men with good jobs, food on the table, and subsequent honor in their homes do not become terrorists, let alone suicide bombers.”

Given Kander’s left-wing view of the world, it’s hardly a surprise that he endorsed a candidate who has blamed the Syrian refugee crisis on climate change:

  • Hillary Clinton: Climate Change Has Contributed To Refugee Crises, Including Syria. Climate change is a contributing factor in the world’s most dire refugee crises, including the one in Syria, Hillary Clinton said in Iowa Tuesday. (CNN, 11/4/15)

Or that he stands side-by-side with Clinton’s call to close Gitmo and bring suspected terrorists to the United States. Kander even went a step farther and signaled his support for bringing them to Missouri.

  • In May 2009, Kander Voted Against A Resolution That “Strongly” Urged Congress To “Reject Any Asylum, Containment, Transport, Imprisonment, Or State Medical Care Of Any Suspected Terrorists Released From United States Operated Foreign Prisons.” “Strongly urges Congress to reject any asylum, containment, transport, imprisonment, or state medical care of any suspected terrorists released from United States operated foreign prisons.” (HCS HCR 16, House Legislative Journal, P. 2044-2045, Resolution Adopted: 118-36, 5/13/09, Kander Voted No; Missouri House Of Representatives, Accessed 11/10/15)

  • “A Resolution Approved Wednesday Urges Congress Not To Send Any Guantanamo Detainees To Missouri Or Even Transport Them Through The State.” “Missouri lawmakers want to keep detainees from the Guantanamo Bay prison out of the state. A resolution approved Wednesday urges Congress not to send any Guantanamo detainees to Missouri or even transport them through the state. President Barack Obama signed an executive order in January to close the prison on the island of Cuba within a year and transfer them elsewhere. The Missouri Legislature’s resolution urges the federal government not to imprison, provide medical care or transport suspected terrorists in Missouri. It also urges Congress not to send the detainees to Kansas, where Fort Leavenworth has been mentioned as a possible site to hold detainees.” (Kevin Held, “State Lawmakers Want To Keep Terrorism Suspects Away,” The Associated Press, 5/13/09)

  • The Resolution Also Urged Congress “Not To Send Detainees To Kansas, Where Fort Leavenworth Has Been Mentioned As A Possible Site To Hold Detainees.” “Missouri lawmakers want to keep detainees from the Guantanamo Bay prison out of the state. A resolution approved Wednesday urges Congress not to send any Guantanamo detainees to Missouri or even transport them through the state. President Barack Obama signed an executive order in January to close the prison on the island of Cuba within a year and transfer them elsewhere. It also urges Congress not to send the detainees to Kansas, where Fort Leavenworth has been mentioned as a possible site to hold detainees.” (Kevin Held, “State Lawmakers Want To Keep Terrorism Suspects Away,” The Associated Press, 5/13/09)

It’s understandable that Kander wants to flip the script on “Democrats’ biggest vulnerability in 2016,” but he just can’t run away from his own anemic record or his support for Clinton’s weak national security positions.
