The day after Florida’s primary, Murphy kicked off his fall campaign with an attack so false that it was not only disproven by Marco Rubio, but Democrat Bill Nelson also set the record straight with facts that Murphy left out of his staged press event:
“Rep. Patrick Murphy officially kicked off his general election campaign on Wednesday with an event featuring the father of a soldier badly injured while serving in the military, who criticized Sen. Marco Rubio…Riney, who said he was not there to ‘make a political statement,’ said he also reached out to Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson, who never responded. Not so, said Nelson’s Senate office in denying they had not helped…Rubio’s Senate office sent POLITICO Florida an email Wedensday noting each and every date the senator’s office sought to help Riney, saying they responded within two days of receiving his request for assistance in February 2015.” (Matt Dixon, “In First Post-Primary Event, Murphy Highlights Rubio Response To Wounded Vet,” Politico, 8/31/16)
Murphy supplemented his latest problem with the truth by falling flat on his face when challenged to a series of debates by Rubio. After backing out of his lone primary debate with Alan Grayson and spending his summer hiding from voters, Murphy executed more of the high-level political strategy that’s come to define his campaign.
As Murphy continues to lie his way through 2016 and torpedo his own electoral hopes, MSNBC’s Chuck Todd gave a brutal if unsurprising evaluation of Murphy’s candidacy:
“‘Democrats really blew it when it comes to recruiting in Florida,’ Todd said on his show MTP Daily.”
As a result of Murphy’s utter failures, Todd went so far as to declare national Democrats would walk away from him once the primary was over.
