The nonpartisan Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report is the latest observer to note that Democrats are watching their candidate get steamrolled by Chuck Grassley:
Democrats tried to pull GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley onto the field of competitive races by recruiting former Lt. Gov. Patty Judge, but the race just isn’t coming together. Grassley continues to be strong in the polls and Judge probably hasn’t raised enough money to pull it off. She had just $228,000 in the bank at the end of June, and there is no indication Clinton will perform well enough in Iowa to pull Judge across the line.
The bad news keeps rolling in for Judge, whose recent attempt to right the ship by demoting her campaign manager clearly failed.
The campaign shakeup came shortly after Roll Call named Judge one of the worst Senate challengers in the country, noting in June] that she was “not yet a credible candidate.”
And while the Democrats’ hype machine raged on, Judge turned in an embarrassing fundraising performance last quarter and even saw her cash on hand drop. It’s only a matter of time before Judge’s friends in Washington officially give up on her campaign.
