It’s been exactly one week since The Wall Street Journal reported that the Obama administration secretly paid $400 million to Iran for American hostages.

It’s therefore been exactly one week since Granite Staters learned that Maggie Hassan will not comment on the ransom.

Just as she does with the responsibilities of her job as governor, Hassan is dodging questions about the fallout from the nuclear deal she so ardently supports.

  • Hassan Supports The Iran Nuclear Deal. “Hassan supports the Iran deal. ‘While imperfect, it’s the best available option to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon,’ she said. ‘But it is only the first step.’ She said the U.S. must work with allies to enforce the agreement, including improving intelligence to ensure that Iran is complying with it.” (“Hassan Enters Race For Senate,” The Union Leader, 10/5/15)
  • VIDEO: Hassan Said The Deal Is “The Best Available Option To Prevent Iran From Having A Nuclear Weapon.” (WMUR’s One On One Interview With Maggie Hassan, 10/5/15)

While it must be encouraging for Granite Staters to finally have confirmation that Hassan has, in fact, stepped foot recently in the state of New Hampshire, her refusal to comment on the ransom payment is as troubling as it is telling.

Barack Obama’s own Justice Department objected to his reckless ransom. One week later, why won’t Maggie Hassan?

Perhaps Hassan’s team still needs more time to craft a boilerplate bromide for her to memorize:

  • The Atlantic, 4/11/14: "…she speaks in the sort of scripted, too-boring-to-quote genericisms that drive reporters crazy."
  • Concord Monitor4/17/16: "…Hassan offered few policy details…"
  • Concord Monitor editorial, 4/19/16: "Talking points, vague party lines and memorized factoids won’t, and shouldn’t, cut it come November."
  • National Journal,1/27/16: "Hassan Criticized for Play-it-Safe Campaign"
  • New Hampshire Public Radio, 10/5/15: "During the interview Hassan offered few specifics when it came to foreign policy."
  • Politico, 1/27/16: "…Hassan also hewed relentlessly to talking points and political bromides…she refused to touch any question that veered toward even remotely treacherous territory…"
  • The Telegraph editorial, 2/9/16: "…at some point she is going to have to move beyond the script that paints her as a cookie cutter Democrat. She’s going to have to give New Hampshire voters especially the 40 percent of the electorate who don’t belong to either major party a reason to vote for her. Talking points won’t be enough. In fact, they may be a problem."
