After digging his hole even deeper with West Virginians, saying in an interview that he told President Trump, “You don’t need to come back to West Virginia. It’s nice to have you, but not during an election cycle,” Joe Manchin is trying hard to pull his foot out of his mouth.

The Hill is reporting that in response to President Trump’s plans to visit the Mountain State “several times” over the course of the campaign, Manchin is now saying “The president is always welcome to my state.” Quite the turnaround in just a week!

It’s clear that Joe Manchin still has no idea how to cope with President Trump campaigning against him. The President remains extremely popular in West Virginia, and Manchin’s decision to join his fellow Washington Democrats in opposing the Trump agenda is looking like the biggest mistake of his long political career.
