NRSC Weekly Rundown: Ad: Trump Hits “Tool” Bredesen, Don Jr. Rips Manchin in WV, Jobs Report = Bad News for Dems and more!

And here’s this week’s edition of the NRSC Weekly Rundown:

National: The Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations released a new report revealing yet another instance of the Obama administration lying to the public about its dealings with Iran. The report shows Obama attempted to circumvent sanctions on the terrorist-supporting regime after implementing their nuclear deal, to give Iran access to the U.S. financial system. This latest revelation further calls into question red state Democrats’ judgment in trusting the administration and supporting the disastrous Iran nuclear deal. When will Democrats agree they were wrong to support Obama’s Iran Deal?

#INSen: Mexico Joe Donnelly’s campaign launched a “Labor for Joe” coalition, even going as far as to claim Mexico Joe stands “with Hoosier workers whose jobs were shipped to Mexico.” But Donnelly has refused to answer questions about his family business outsourcing Indiana jobs to their factory in Guadalajara. The minimum wage is only $4.70 a day in Mexico – what is Donnelly’s factory paying their workers?

#TNSen: The NRSC dropped a new ad in Tennessee highlighting President Trump’scomments reminding voters that Phil Bredesen is an “absolute total tool of Chuck Schumer” and supported the radical policies of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Bredesen did his part to confirm the President’s criticisms, attending a swanky D.C. fundraiser with Clinton mega donors like Heather Podesta.

#FLSen: Super PACs have been funneling millions of dollars trying to portray Bill Nelson as a moderate “independent fighter,” even though he votes with Democratic Party leaders over 90% of the time. But while speaking with a group of local Democrats this week, Nelson showed his true colors by saying “an election is like driving a car. If you want to go forward, you put it in D. If you want to go backwards, you put it in R.” Bill Nelson can try to say he’s a bipartisan voice for Florida, but comments like these prove he’s nothing more than a far-left Democrat. Do-nothing Nelson put on a big act this week when he feigned outrage over NASA funding cuts while he’s done nothing to protect Florida’s Space Coast during his 30 years in Congress.

#WVSen: Donald Trump Jr. was in West Virginia this week campaigning for Attorney General Patrick Morissey. Don Jr. railed against Joe Manchin for his support of Hillary Clinton and for voting with Barack Obama 83% of the time. Trying to backpedal, Manchin tried to claim it was a “mistake” to support Hillary Clinton over President Trump, despite his longstanding admiration for the Clintons. Meanwhile, Manchin’s daughter, and CEO of Mylan, Heather Bresch is back in the newsdefending her decision to raise the price of Mylan’s life-saving EpiPen by over 500%. Unfortunately for Joe, this isn’t the first time Manchin and his daughter have been in the hot seat for their cozy ties with the Pharma heavyweight.

#AZSen: The Green Valley News and Sahuarita Sun tore into Krysten Sinema in a scathing editorial for taking a sham tour across Arizona and for going to great lengths to avoid questions from the public and the press. The editorial comes just days after Sinema was taken to task for leaving a border security hearing more than 2 hours early. But given Sinema’s abysmal record, it’s easy to see why she’d be running for cover.

#MSSen: Senator Roger Wicker won Mississippi’s Republican primary election on Tuesday by a landslide. Wicker is a reliable advocate for Mississippi who will serve the state for years to come, which is exactly why President Trump endorsed Senator Wicker’s reelection bid earlier this year. In a statement, NRSC Executive Director Chris Hansen said “Senator Roger Wicker has a proven record of getting things done, and that’s exactly why Mississippians overwhelmingly supported his reelection tonight.”

#NJSen: Businessman Bob Hugin won the Republican primary election on Tuesday, advancing to the general election to face disgraced Senator Bob Menendez. But while Hugin was creating jobs in New Jersey, Menendez was accepting bribes in Washington, and New Jerseyans came out in droves to express their frustration with the disgraced Senator. Menendez garnered just 62.1% of the Democratic primary vote against Lisa McCormick, a complete unknown who didn’t even file a campaign finance report. Menendez’s poor showing on Tuesday is a sign that national Democrats may have to spend millions in a blue state to prop up a crook’s lagging reelection campaign.

#MTSen: This Tuesday, Matt Rosendale successfully cinched the Republican nomination to challenge Jon Tester this November. Tester has time and again chosen to align with coastal elites in Washington over hardworking Montanans back home. Voters will choose to send him into retirement this November. “Matt Rosendale will be Montana’s next Senator because voters deserve strong leaders who put Montanans first every day, instead of just paying lip service in election years,” said NRSC Executive Director Chris Hansen in a statement.

#NMSen: Construction contractor and job creator Mick Rich won New Mexico’s Republican nomination for Senate and will face Martin Heinrich in the general election this November. New Mexicans deserve a Senator who will work tirelessly to fight for New Mexico taxpayers, not vote in tandem with coastal elites like Martin Heinrich.

#MNSen: Tina Smith’s close ally, Congressman Keith Ellisonannounced this week that he will end his congressional campaign to run for Minnesota Attorney General. Ellison was quick to endorse Smith’s campaign for reelection, but will Smith do the same considering Ellison’s baggage and questionable ties to anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan?

#NVSen: California radical and Trump impeachment advocate Tom Steyer maxed out to Jacky Rosen’s campaign last quarter. Nevadans deserve to know if Rosen agrees with her donor’s radical campaign to impeach President Trump.

#WISen: The Tomah VA Medical Center is back in the news as new reports surfaced showing malfunctions at the facility have compromised veterans’ medications and cost taxpayers as much as $60,000 in damages. The recent reports are a stark reminder of Tammy Baldwin’s repeated refusal to take action on other huge problems at the Tomah VA. Additionally, this week marks the beginning of Dairy Month in Wisconsin — the perfect time to look back on Baldwin’s disastrous record for Wisconsin farmers. Wisconsinites know they can’t trust Baldwin to stand up for Wisconsin’s veterans or farmers.

NEWS AND NOTES:

Washington Examiner: Total jobless claims running at lowest level in 44 years

Over the most recent month, the total number of workers getting benefits fell to 1.73 million, the lowest such number since December of 1973, when the labor force was much smaller. In comparison, more than 6 million workers were getting such claims during the worst of the recession. READ

CNBC: The May jobs report is great news for everyone — except Democrats running for office

Most troubling for Democrats is that the biggest job gainers have been groups that have historically suffered from stubbornly high levels of unemployment, including younger workers, black workers and so-called marginally attached workers, whose employment is tracked by the BLS with the so-called U-6 rate. That measure includes part-time workers who want a full-time job and people who want to work but have given up looking and aren’t in the official count of the labor force. READ

Washington Examiner: Job openings hit a record high 6.7 million

That was the most advertised vacancies since the agency started keeping track in 2000. As a result, job openings outnumbered unemployed workers in the month, a high-water mark for job-seekers that hasn’t been seen in decades. In comparison, there were more than six jobless workers per open job during the worst of the recession. READ

NJ.com: What the hell happened to Bob Menendez in Tuesday’s primary?

While Menendez, D-N.J., was never seriously threatened with losing his party’s nomination for another Senate term, his performance wasn’t a good sign coming on the heels of his Senate Ethics Committee admonishment and a criminal corruption trial that ended in a hung jury before the charges were dropped. READ

CNBC: Republican ex-drug CEO Hugin hopes centrism and New Jersey roots — plus a pile of his own cash — will help him beat Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez

Republicans jumped on Menendez’s Tuesday primary performance. In a statement following the primaries, National Republican Senatorial Committee executive director Chris Hansen said that “after years of nothing but embarrassment and scandal from Menendez, New Jerseyans agree it’s time for a fresh voice in the U.S. Senate.” READ

Say Anything: Poll: Heitkamp Approval Goes Underwater Among North Dakotans, 50 Percent Say Elect Someone Else

Specifically, these numbers are pretty awful for Heitkamp, and they seem to have at least some degree of substantiation in independent polling. For instance, last month we got credible reports of internal polling from Republicans showing Heitkamp’s opponent Congressman Kevin Cramer up six points in the competition. READ

The Hill: Jobs report raises GOP hopes for midterms, while worrying Dems

“It’s not the economic numbers that matter, it’s people’s perception of the economic numbers that matter,” she said. “In Donald Trump they see someone who’s actually quite good on economic message,” she said of blue-collar voters. “We may be dismissive of it but voters aren’t.” READ
