Heidi Heitkamp is scheduled to hold a fundraiser tomorrow evening with special guest former failed Michigan Governor, UC Berkeley professor and Hillary Clinton surrogate Jennifer Granholm.

At first glance, it seems odd that Heitkamp would want to invite a former elected official with such an abysmal record. After all, Granholm left Michigan in financial ruin, with skyrocketing unemployment, anemic economic growth and a smaller state population than when she took office. But upon further investigation it makes sense. Granholm and Heitkamp share a common bond: they love Hillary Clinton and taxes!

Both were major Hillary boosters, with Granholm serving in a prominent role on Clinton’s campaign and Heitkamp serving as a superdelegate for the disastrous presidential candidate. Their Hillary support probably won’t play well with the crowd given President Trump won North Dakota by 36 points. But don’t worry, if they run out of stories from the failed 2016 campaign, they can always discuss Granholm signing the biggest tax increase in Michigan history, or Heitkamp’s recent vote against the GOP tax cuts that are providing North Dakotans with bonuses, raises and bigger paychecks.

And after North Dakota voters hold Heitkamp accountable in November for standing with liberal Democrats and voting against letting them keep more of their hard-earned money, Hillary won’t be the only one forced to spend her days post-election wondering “what happened?”
