WASHINGTON, D.C. — Praise is pouring in for Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Susan Collins’ leadership after she spearheaded negotiations to end Schumer’s Shutdown and fund the government. Collins’ leadership is a direct contrast to her Democrat opponents. Janet Mills and Graham Platner both said they would have broken with Collins and Maine’s other Senator, Angus King (I-ME), to vote against the bill if they were serving.

NRSC Chairman Tim Scott (R-SC): “Grateful to Senator Susan Collins’ continued leadership and her hard work to negotiate the end of the Schumer shutdown.”

Senator John Barrasso (R-WY): “Thanks to the leadership and determination of
@SenatorCollins, the Schumer Shutdown is over. The Senate will now get to work passing full year appropriations bills that strengthen our economy, invest in our servicemembers, and promote fiscal responsibility.”

Senator John Boozman (R-AR): “The federal government is now reopen and we fully funded agencies that serve veterans, farmers and other key needs thanks in no small part to @SenatorCollins. Her leadership has been instrumental to moving legislation through the Appropriations Committee, passing the floor and making it onto the president’s desk with a hallmark bipartisan approach that delivers time after time not only for her constituents but every American. I extend my sincere thanks to Chair Collins on behalf of my colleagues and the great state of Arkansas.”

Senator Katie Britt (R-AL): “Over the past few weeks, I’ve once again seen how crucial @SenSusanCollins’ leadership is for Maine and our nation. Because of her exceptional dedication, SNAP and WIC benefits are fully restored through the end of the fiscal year, our troops and federal workers will receive paychecks, and America’s farmers and rural communities are supported. It’s an honor to serve with her on the Appropriations Committee and be able to watch her leadership first hand.”

Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS): “The government would not be open today without the steady leadership of @SenSusanCollins. As Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, she has been working from day one to fund the government and ensure that it is working for the American people. I am grateful for her consistent efforts to get this process moving forward in a constructive direction.”

Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE): “As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I’m grateful for the leadership of @SenSusanCollins. With her hard work, we were able to pass a package to reopen the government and secure @POTUS’ signature on three of our appropriations bills. This is what we’ve wanted all along: a transparent, accountable appropriations process that provides good stewardship of Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars. I look forward to continuing this important work alongside Chair Collins and my colleagues on the Appropriations Committee.”

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA): “I applaud Sen Collins’ hard nosed negotiating as approps chair She knows govt is a service to the ppl & worked hard to deliver opening govt w needed 60 votes in Senate.”

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC): “…Hats off to all the Senators who worked so hard to create this breakthrough, particularly @SenatorCollins and @SenKatieBritt…”

Portland Press Herald: “Susan Collins played key roles in crafting a deal to break the impasse.”

Sun Journal: “Susan Collins continues to lead and deliver.”

Maine Wire: “The U.S. Senate approved legislation authored by Sen. Susan Collins (R) to reopen the federal government, advancing a package that combines a short-term funding measure with three full-year appropriations bills… Collins, who chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee, led negotiations between Republicans, Democrats, House members and administration officials to reach the agreement.”

POLITICO: “On the Republican side of the aisle, Collins kept in close contact with senators as she worked to lock down the appropriations bills and close out a deal that would reopen the government. Collins had privately pitched a six-point plan for ending the shutdown, and the eventual deal largely aligned with what she set out: enacting the three-bill “minibus,” teeing up another package of full-year bills, guaranteeing back pay for furloughed employees, promising the ACA vote, beefing up security funding for lawmakers and passing a stopgap bill to reopen all agencies.”

Maine Public: “Maine Senators Susan Collins and Angus King both played key roles in Sunday’s vote to end the 40-day-long government shutdown.”

Bloomberg: “… Republican Senators gave a round of applause Sunday night as a deal emerged, for Appropriations Chair Susan Collins (R-Maine). Collins secured a deal to pass three full-year funding bills in the bargain to reopen the government, a tall task. The deal jams the House with the Senate preferences on these measures…”

USA Today: “…Some Republican leaders, like Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, were thrilled to see the compromise come together. She was a main driver behind bipartisan negotiations to end the crisis…”

Central Maine: “Senate passes bill King and Collins helped broker to end the government shutdown”

FOX 22: “Maine Senator Susan Collins unveiled legislation and helped negotiate an end to that impasse…”

ABC 7: “Senator Collins has been leading the negotiations with Senate Republicans, Democrats, and members of the House…”
