Debbie Stabenow and Senate Democrats are taking their gridlock to a new, shameful level today by “boycotting” markup hearings for Treasury Secretary nominee Steven Mnuchin and Health and Human Services Secretary nominee Rep. Tom Price.

By refusing to go to work, Debbie Stabenow hopes to further delay confirmation of President Trump’s cabinet. But this is only the latest delay and obstruction tactic by Stabenow and her fellow Senate Democrats, whose intransigence has left 16 of President Trump’s nominees to head major departments or agencies still waiting to be confirmed. In stark contrast, Republicans worked with Democrats in 2009, and just seven of former President Obama’s nominees were awaiting votes at this point in his presidency.

This move by Debbie Stabenow goes against the will of Michiganders who voted for President Trump last November.

“Debbie Stabenow is proving that she is nothing more than a partisan politician by refusing to do her job,” said NRSC Communications Director Katie Martin. “Stabenow needs to explain why she thinks she is above doing her job to the hardworking folks in Michigan who don’t have the luxury of missing work.”
