WASHINGTON – During their debate on tax policy, Ted Cruz asked Bernie Sanders a simple question: What’s the difference between a socialist and a Democrat on taxes? Bernie’s response, “I don’t know the answer to that,” was telling.

The reason Bernie doesn’t know the answer is that throughout the ongoing tax debate Democrats have made it clear that there is no difference between the socialist position and the “mainstream” Democrat position. Senate Democrats, led by the liberal, Elizabeth Warren-Bernie Sanders wing of the party, have come out strongly against tax reform, making clear they stand for higher taxes and more spending. There is no difference between socialists and Democrats on taxes, because socialists are now the leaders of the Democratic Party. But what do those Democrats running for reelection in states President Trump won have to say? Can they explain the difference between a socialist and a Democrat plan on taxes?

“Bernie Sanders couldn’t answer what the difference is between Democrats and socialists on taxes because there isn’t one,” said NRSC Communications Director Katie Martin. “Red State Democrats must answer what the difference is between their own position on taxes and that of the self-avowed socialists now leading their party.”
