So far, Democratic Senator Heidi Heitkamp hasn’t let North Dakotans know where she stands on the GOP’s plan for historic tax relief. But apparently, she’s been more than happy to share her true feelings with Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
According to Schumer, Senator Heitkamp has talked about how the GOP tax plan is not what she philosophically believes in and how she wants to help the middle class. This is odd considering the Joint Committee on Taxation showed that middle-class families would be the biggest winners under the legislation, and an analysis from the nonpartisan Tax Foundation found that the legislation would create nearly 3,000 new jobs in North Dakota and save middle income families $2,648.
“Chuck Schumer made it clear that Senator Heitkamp doesn’t support giving middle-class families access to thousands of new job opportunities and the ability to keep more of their hard-earned money,” said NRSC Spokesman Michael McAdams. “North Dakotans deserve a Senator who is more focused on their constituents’ best interests instead of someone like Heitkamp who only cares about falling in line with D.C. Democrats.”
